York Children’s University seeks to involve children and young people in innovative,
exciting opportunities which promote learning, increase motivation, build self-esteem,
broaden horizons and ultimately raise levels of attainment. York Children’s University
is a collaboration between schools, employers and The University of York. Now an
established and respected programme, the York Children’s University module sees
students have put together a fantastic module based around food and hospitality,
bringing in support from external partners in the business. The module uses food
and cookery as a starting point for children to learn about a range of topics including
careers in the food and hospitality industry, healthy eating and international culture, as
well as enhancing science and maths skills.
The aim of the project is to deliver exciting classroom based sessions around the topic of food and hospitality and engage children in ‘learning in the wild’, culminating in an event or trip.
